Preparing Your Vehicle for Winter

Preparing Your Vehicle for Winter

With cold weather right around the corner, it is a good idea to be thinking about some important steps to take regarding your vehicle. Here at Browns Automotive, we like to keep people informed about proper car maintenance and repairs in Albuquerque, Los Ranchos, and Rio Rancho. Follow these three simple rules to ensure your car or truck will be dependable during the cold weather.

Tires

Check your tire pressure regularly. Tire pressure will decrease as the temperature decreases. Most modern vehicles are equipped with Tire Pressure Monitor systems that will indicate on the dash if the tire pressure is low. We get a lot of calls during the cold weather about this light. Oftentimes a simple tire pressure adjustment will cure the annoying warning indicator.

Use the penny test to ensure you have adequate tread left on your tires. Place the penny head down in the tire tread, if you can see to the top of Lincolns head your tires need replacement. We often see wet and slick roads during the winter, therefore it is very important to ensure you have good tires where the rubber meets the road! Browns Automotive locations offer tire replacement in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and Los Ranchos. We are often running many specials so be sure to check with us regarding tire replacement. Our qualified staff will ensure you get the right tires for your driving needs.

Feel free to stop by any of our three locations and let our staff check your tire pressure and tread for free.

Coolant/Antifreeze

Antifreeze is exactly what you think it means. Keeps the coolant from freezing and causing expensive damage to your engine. It is very important to have your antifreeze tested yearly for proper freeze protection and corrosion inhibitors. Browns Automotive performs many coolant system repairs in New Mexico all winter long. A lot of those could be easily prevented with proper maintenance. Be sure to have your antifreeze tested and changed if it is diluted or fails the corrosion test. The staff at Browns Automotive will be happy to test your antifreeze for you.

Complete Vehicle Inspection

Having your vehicle inspected regularly can prevent expensive and inconvenient break downs. The cold weather will put a strain on your vehicle, you can get ahead of it by having it inspected for any issue that may lead to break downs. No one wants to be stranded and waiting for a tow truck when the weather is freezing. Browns Automotive has inspected over 250,000 vehicles and we know what to look for and what to expect.
