Albuquerque Car Repair: Are Snow Tires Right For You?

If it’s no big deal for you to wake up in the winter months and find 3 or 4 inches of snow on the ground, then chances are you’ve thought about a good set of snow tires once or twice. Snow tires can give you a huge advantage during the winter months on the road, no matter what kind of vehicle you have. If you’re on the fence about whether to upgrade your tires for the winter months, consider the following facts:

You’ll Have a Huge Advantage on Winter Roads

Winter tires are made out of a softer rubber compound with deeper tread, giving them a much easier time gripping to the road—even on snowy, icy roads. A better grip means easier braking, easier turning, and a safer ride in general. The softer compound allows the tire to dig into the road, despite the snow and ice.

Snow Tires vs. All Weather Tires

You might think that by purchasing a set of all-weather tires that you’re covered for winter. While all-weathers are made to efficiently perform in a variety of conditions, snow tires specialize in ONE thing: dealing with those tough winter roads. Look at it this way—all weather tires are like a pair of sneakers, while snow tires are like heavy-duty boots. If it was your choice, which would you rather have in a snow storm?

Change at the End of the Season

We call them “winter tires” for a reason. When the season’s over, stop by a local car repair shop in Albuquerque to have your regular tires put back on. Snow tires make much more noise than all-weather tires and wear out faster in the warmer months. Your snow ties can last up to 4 seasons when taken care of correctly!

You need 4 Tires, Not 2

When you have two snow tires and two of another set on your vehicle, it’s called having a “split” personality. If you don’t have a complete set of snow tires, the ends of your vehicle won’t react the same, and this will impair judgment in adverse conditions. If you want your vehicle to be consistent as possible, you’ll want to get a whole set.

If you’re on the fence about getting a pair of snow tires, don’t hesitate to stop by and talk to one of our ASE-Certified technicians about Tires for the Albuquerque winter. We’d be happy to help!
